The Super Book for Superheroes

Ah, being a superhero. Flying. Fighting crimes. Capes. And stretchy suits. If you’ve ever entertained the idea of being one (who hasn’t really…), give Jason Ford‘s The Super Book for Superheroes book a gander. Learn to draw villains, create superheroes and pair them up with a sidekick, fill out scenes with special superpowers, or colour in one of the pop out masks. Don’t worry, there’s a sticker sheet, too. We’ve coloured in this paper figure, and are still inspired by his look of sheer determination (it’s unreal).

The Super Book of Superheroes by Jason Ford. $20, available at both locations.

Sunography Spotlight!

sunography3
Summertime means plenty of sunshine (and rain in equal measure, apparently. Oh, Toronto). You can either embrace it, hide from it in the shade, or slather on sunscreen and hope for the best. Alternatively, you could come by and pick up a Sunography kit and make art using nothing but sunlight. The results are similar to a cyanotype print (one of the earliest examples of photography), à la botanist Anna Atkin’s work.

Step one: Find an object that you’re keen on. Step two: place said object on the double-sided light sensitive paper. Step three: Find a sunny spot, and leave your object on the paper to bask for 1-15 minutes. The longer you leave it, the darker it’ll be. Step four: High five, you’ve got yourself a print.
