Polaris Music Prize 2013: Purity Ring

Purity Ring are a Canadian electronic music duo originally from Edmonton, formed in 2010. The band consists of Megan James and Corin Roddick. Shrines is the debut album for Purity Ring, released in July of 2012, the album reached number 100 on the UK Albums Chart.

Whitehorse is a Canadian folk rock band, whose core members are Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland. The duo have released two albums and an EP on Six Shooter Records. They are currently based in Hamilton, Ontario.

Polaris Music Prize 2013: A Tribe Called Red

A Tribe Called Red are a Canadian electronic music group, who blend instrumental hip hop, reggae Moombahton,and dubstep-influenced dance music with elements of First Nations music, particularly vocal chanting and drumming. Based in Ottawa, Ontario, the group consists of three DJs, Ian “DJ NDN” Campeau, Dan “DJ Shub” General and Bear Witness. Nation II Nation is the second studio album by ATCR, released in 2013.

Tegan and Sara are a Canadian indie rock duo formed in 1995 in Calgary, composed of identical twin sisters Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Keirsten Quin. Heartthrob is the seventh studio album, released in January 2013.

Polaris Music Prize 2013: Colin Stetson

Colin Stetson, born in Michigan and currently based in Montreal, Quebec, is a bass saxophone player and touring member of Arcade Fire, Bell Orchestre and Bon Iver. Stetson’s solo album, New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light was released in April 2013 by Constellation Records.
