Polaris Music Prize 2014: Yamantaka // Sonic Titan

For another year we had the pleasure of screen printing the Polaris Music Prize nominee posters which have been hand crafted by fellow Canadian illustrators and designers!

Toronto band YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN were nominated for their first studio album ‘YT//ST’, good going guys!

Polaris Music Prize 2014: Shad

For another year we had the pleasure of screen printing the Polaris Music Prize nominee posters which have been hand crafted by fellow Canadian illustrators and designers!

London, Ontario’s Shad has made it to the short list three times now, this year he has been nominated for his fourth album ‘Flying Colours’.

Paul Chin is an artist and musician (signed to Cosmonostro) who better to have designed Shad’s poster!

Polaris Music Prize 2014: Timber Timbre

For another year we had the pleasure of screen printing the Polaris Music Prize nominee posters which have been hand crafted by fellow Canadian illustrators and designers!

Timber Timbre were shortlisted in 2009 and are back with a nomination for their 5th album ‘Hot Dreams’. Fun fact, their band name refers to a series of early recordings made in a rural Ontario timbre framed cabin.

Tristan Marantos currently studies graphic design at OCAD, he’s done a great job on Timber Timbre’s poster.

Polaris Music Prize 2014: Mac DeMarco

For another year we had the pleasure of screen printing the Polaris Music Prize nominee posters which have been hand crafted by fellow Canadian illustrators and designers!

BC born Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV or Mac DeMarco to you and me is nominated for his second and (critically acclaimed) album ‘Salad Days’ which was recorded in his Brooklyn bedroom.

Ontario’s own Melinda Josie created DeMarco’s rad leafy poster, we get a lovely mention on her blog thanks Melinda!

Polaris Music Prize 2014: Jessy Lanza

For another year we had the pleasure of screen printing the Polaris Music Prize nominee posters which have been hand crafted by fellow Canadian illustrators and designers!

This is the first time Hamilton’s Jessy Lanza has appeared in the Polaris short list. Her nominated album ‘Pull My Hair Back’, described by Pitchfork as “glacial electro-R&B” is produced by fellow Hamiltonian Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys.

Calgary based illustrator Jarrett Sitter is the brains behind Jessy’s cool poster.

Polaris Music Prize 2014: Owen Pallett

For another year we had the pleasure of screen printing the Polaris Music Prize nominee posters which have been hand crafted by fellow Canadian illustrators and designers!

Owen Pallett who hails from Mississauga has already won the prize back in 2006 with Final Fantasy. This year he’s been nominated for the album ‘In Conflict’ released under his own name. Owen has had a pretty good year already, he and William Butler (of Arcade Fire) were Grammy nominated for ‘Best Original Score’ for their work on the film ‘Her’!

Nik Dudukovic who lives and works here in Toronto, created Owen’s poster, check it out!

Polaris Music Prize 2014 Winner Tanya Tagaq

Big congratulations to Tanya Tagaq who took home the Polaris Music 2014 prize last night for her album ‘Animism’. Tanya gave an amazing performance which also won her the only standing ovation of the evening, she dedicated her performance to Canada’s missing and murdered Aboriginal Women.

Tanya Tagaq is no stranger to awards, winning Best Female artist in 2005’s Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. Something to listen out for on the album is Michael Red‘s wild northern field recordings which feature as Tanya’s ‘backing band’.

The creator behind Tanya’s colourful poster Shannon Reid is an illustrator living here in Toronto. Congrats to you too Shannon!

Polaris Music Prize 2014: Arcade Fire

We are very happy to inform you that for another year we had the great pleasure of screen-printing the posters for Polaris Music Prize!

Monday 22nd’s Gala will reveal the winner of this years Polaris music prize, we’ll be running a series of blog posts for each of the nominees alongside their posters which have been hand crafted by fellow Canadian illustrators and designers!

Firstly we have 2011 winners Arcade Fire who have scored a hat-trick this year with their 3rd nomination for album ‘Reflektor, which reached number 1 on the Canadian, British and American charts.

Arcade Fire’s poster has been designed by St. Johns local Jud Haynes. If you like this poster, make sure you check out our other Jud Haynes designed posters we have in store!
